I am a self-taught artist, and I
have worked in several mediums, including
acrylic, watercolor, collage, and sculpture. But I work mostly with soft
pastel. I chose pastel as my primary medium because I enjoy the
challenge of layering colors to achieve the subtle beauty of the
subjects I paint.
Most of my
paintings are of botanical subjects. My inspiration for my floral paintings comes from a
lifelong fascination with nature, especially flowers.
As a child, one of my favorite pastimes was sitting in my
grandmother’s flower garden. Later
in life, I discovered Georgia O’Keefe’s floral art, which
demonstrated to me that flowers can be complex, dramatic, and powerful.
I am intrigued by the way light interacts with
flower petals and creates many subtle translucent designs.
In my paintings, I attempt to capture this intricate beauty.
I live in
Macon, Georgia, with my husband, and my two sons. I
teach fourth grade in Bibb County Schools.
